Is this your situation?
- Your Usage view displays an available reset or “Full reset” and you want to apply it deliberately.
- A referral or promotion mentioned a banked reset, but you do not see it in the expected account or workspace.
- You pressed confirm and the usage percentage did not change immediately, or the old weekly date is still displayed.
- You need to decide whether to save a reset for later, use it before expiry, or simply wait for an automatic window.
Step by step
- Find the saved reset in your own account
Open Settings → Usage in the Codex desktop app, CLI or web view, as available to your account. Select the usage summary showing an available reset, such as “1 reset available” or “Full reset.” If the option is absent, first confirm you are signed into the account and workspace that received the offer.
- Review eligibility and expiration
Read the offer details before using a reset. OpenAI says eligibility, delivery timing, affected limits, and expiration can vary by plan, workspace, region and promotion. A public announcement of an automatic reset does not itself create a banked reset. An expired unused banked reset is not restored merely because it was missed.
- Confirm when you need the allowance
A banked reset must be applied by you. If the confirmation screen shows a full reset, expect the eligible five-hour and weekly windows to refresh. OpenAI says the reset is consumed only when it successfully refreshes at least one eligible usage window; if there is nothing to reset, it remains available.
- Read the new account state
Reopen Settings → Usage and compare the reset count, window percentages, and weekly reset date. A full banked reset changes the weekly schedule, so an old calendar reminder may become misleading. The account dashboard can take a short time to update; refresh or reopen it before treating a stale number as a failed action.
- Investigate a missing or failed reset
If the benefit is still missing or the allowance remains wrong, check the correct account and workspace, then contact OpenAI Support. Include the offer or announcement, the date and time with time zone, a current Usage screenshot, and the Codex client and model. Support can review eligibility or incorrect application; it does not grant a courtesy reset simply because an issue was reported.
Still stuck?
- If the reset counter is still available after confirmation, check whether any eligible window actually needed refreshing before retrying.
- If your old weekly reset date passed after applying a full reset, use the new Usage date rather than the old reminder.
- If you only saw a public global reset notice, verify whether the notice included a separate saved benefit before expecting a banked count.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I redeem a Codex banked reset?
Open Settings → Usage in the Codex client or web view, select the usage summary showing an available reset, review the expiration and confirm. The option appears only if your account is eligible and has a saved reset.
Can a banked reset remain unused if nothing is exhausted?
OpenAI says it is consumed only when it successfully refreshes at least one eligible window. If there is nothing to reset, it remains available until its applicable expiration.
What should I send Support if my banked reset seems missing?
Include the offer, account and workspace, usage screenshot, when you tried to use it with time zone, and the client and model. Support can investigate verified eligibility and errors but does not promise a replacement benefit.
